Here's a new topic: Piracy

I've had an unsettling two days as it recently came to my attention that electronic review copies of my forthcoming book The Raft are being downloaded illegally. I won't expand here, but if you are interested, head over to my own blog http://latteya.livejournal.com

What a nuisance to have to keep track of pirates now! I don't even think they make the connection that they are ripping off the author-- I hope you have put a shut-down to the entire operation.

Thanks for letting us all know about this, Stephanie. We've entered a new world with this and books are not going to be immune to what happened to music. Keep us posted as to what happens with this.

Thanks guys. I know I plan on asking they don't distribute electronic review copies of my future books.

It feels like a personal violation. And I don't think the people who do this ever think about the fact there are real, ordinary, unwealthy people who are trying to make their living by writing books.

David, exactly. It does feel very personal.

This is so infuriating! Good luck and keep us posted.

Stephanie, this is a good warning for all. I could imagine offering an electronic excerpt-only for a tease. You are wise to demand limits on future review copies.
