The Joy of Deadlines

I love deadlines. They provide the impetus for me to sit down and do the hard work that I know needs to be done on a story. I set my own daily deadlines and weekly deadlines and sometimes am better at meeting them than others.
One of the challenges of creating my own work schedule is to determine how much time I need for a particular project. There's nothing like an impending deadline to speed that process up. This picture is from the publication party for EYES ON THE GOAL at the Red Balloon in St. Paul last Friday. We had enough people there that we ate the whole cake that covered the table. It was a fun celebration and I needed deadlines to get there.

Great photo John! I wish I could have been there-it looks like great energy flowing at the Red Balloon! Sometime I would love to hear how you structure your time on a daily basis- It is always helpful for me to hear the daily/weekly goals and deadlines of other artist/authors.
Congratulations on a very successful book launch!

Congrats John! I love The Red Balloon. And that cake.

You impress me with your discipline, John. It relates well to your topic of sports and specifically to the title of that book, EYES ON THE GOAL (I'm afraid my eyes would keep jumping over to that tempting cake). I see this kind of discipline in my daughter who takes dance daily. She never procrastinates and always excels. Seems to be a hallmark of an athlete.

I'm glad you had so many folks at your signing, John...but I'm sorry there wasn't any cake left to take home!

Thank you. Yes, I wish we all were closer so we could eat cake together. The geographical diversity of the Spuds, though, will make our meetings that much more fun.
